4. FIRST AID MEASURES

Consult the National Poison Centre  ,  telephone   0800  764 766   [ 0800 POISON ]  or a doctor in every case of suspected poisoning. Never give fluids or induce vomiting if the person is unconscious or convulsing regardless of the cause of injury.
If breathing difficulties occur, seek medical attention immediately.

EYES:  Hold eyes open and carefully rinse eyes with running water.  Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Seek medical advice if irritation persists.

SKIN:  Remove contaminated clothing and wash affected area with soap and water.  If skin irritation occurs, get medical attention.

INGESTION:  Rinse mouth. Immediately call a Poison Centre or doctor for treatment advice. Do not induce vomiting unless told to do so by a Poison Centre or doctor.

INHALATION:    Move person to fresh air.  Seek medical advice if ill-effects occur. If person is not breathing, begin artificial respiration. Use mouth-to-nose rather than mouth-to-mouth.

EXTINGUISHING MEDIA:  Water spray, water fog, foam, CO2, dry chemical .

FIRE & EXPLOSION HAZARDS:  Avoid breathing dust or fumes.  Avoid generating dust, particularly clouds of dust in a confined or unventilated space. Dust may form an explosive mixture with air, and any source of ignition, i.e., flame or spark, will cause a fire or explosion.

FIRE-FIGHTING EQUIPMENT:  Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and personal protection clothing.



6.  ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

SPILLS:  Do not contaminate watercourses or the ground. Clean up immediately. Avoid contact with skin and eyes; wear personal protective equipment. Use dry clean up procedures and avoid generating dust. Vacuum or sweep up. Recover spilled material in clean dry labeled container that can be tightly closed for disposal.

DISPOSAL:  Dispose of waste or contaminated material  in labeled containers to an  approved landfill in accordance with local regulations.


7.  HANDLING AND STORAGE

HANDLING: Read label before use.  Do not handle until all safety precautions have been read and understood. Keep out of reach of children.  Use personal protective equipment. Wear rubber or neoprene gloves and protect eyes from dust or splashes once diluted with water . Do not breathe in dust or mist.  Do not eat, drink or smoke when using product.  Wash hands before meals and after use.   Wash protective clothing daily after work.   Avoid release to environment.

STORAGE:   Store in tightly closed  original container in a cool dry place  , out of reach of children and away from food, drink and animal foodstuffs. Protect packaging from physical damage.



8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION

EXPOSURE GUIDELINES:  No Tolerable Exposure Limit (TEL) nor Workplace Exposure Standard (WES) has been set for this substance.

ENGINEERING CONTROLS:  Use in a well ventilated area.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE):
Face/Eye protection:  Wear goggles or face shield  where there is risk of  dust or mist contact.

Skin protection:   Use rubber or neoprene gloves.

Respiratory protection:  Use in a well-ventilated area. In confined spaces wear a SAA approved respirator.

Other: Cotton overalls buttoned to neck and at wrist are recommended to protect clothes and any exposed skin from contamination. Wear impervious safety footwear. After use, wash protective equipment including the inside of gloves.
Dry before re-use. Ensure easy access to eye wash unit and to emergency shower.

10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY

STABILITY (CONDITIONS TO AVOID):   Stable under normal storage and use conditions. Avoid extremes of temperature, e.g. below 0 ºC and above 40 ºC.

INCOMPATIBILITY (MATERIALS TO AVOID) : Avoid contact with oxidizers and strong alkalis.

HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS:  Decomposes on heating and may produce acrid smoke and toxic fumes of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides.

HAZARDOUS POLYMERIZATION:  Not known to occur.



11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS: This section includes possible adverse effects, which might occur if this product is not handled in the recommended manner.

EYE:  Irritant.

SKIN:  Irritant.  Not classified as a skin sensitiser.

INGESTION:  May cause discomfort to gastrointestinal tract and harmful if swallowed in large quantity.

INHALATION:  Product is not classified as having acutely toxic effects by inhalation route.  May cause discomfort to upper respiratory tract. Persons with impaired respiratory function, airway diseases and conditions such as emphysema or chronic bronchitis, may incur further disability if excessive concentrations of dust particulate are inhaled.

SYSTEMIC (OTHER TARGET ORGAN) EFFECTS:  Affects hepatotoxicity, alimentary system, liver.  NOAEL 12.5 mg/kg b.w./day from 2 year feeding study on dogs.

CANCER INFORMATION:  No adverse effects identified.

TERATOLOGY (BIRTH DEFECTS) and REPRODUCTIVE DEFECTS:   Known or presumed human reproductive or developmental toxicant. May damage fertility and the unborn child.

MUTAGENICITY (EFFECTS ON GENETIC MATERIAL): Known or presumed human mutagen.

13.  DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS

Dispose of any waste  in accordance with Regional Authority or local council bylaws. Dispose of empty bags by burying in  approved  landfill.
