4. FIRST AID MEASURES

Consult  a doctor in every case of suspected poisoning. Never give fluids or induce vomiting if the person is unconscious or convulsing regardless of the cause of injury. If breathing difficulties occur, seek medical attention immediately.

EYES:  Hold eyes open and carefully rinse eyes with running water.  Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Seek medical advice. Seek medical attention.

SKIN:  Remove contaminated clothing and wash affected area with soap and water.  If skin irritation occurs, get medical attention.

INGESTION:  Rinse mouth.  Do NOT induce vomiting. Immediately call a Poison Centre or doctor for treatment advice.

INHALATION:    Remove person to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. Immediately call a doctor for advice. If person is not breathing, begin artificial respiration. Use mouth-to-nose rather than mouth-to-mouth.

6.  ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

SPILLS:  Do not contaminate watercourses or the ground. Absorb small spills with sand or other inert material. Dyke large spills with sand, soil or vermiculite. Recover liquid into suitable labeled container (polyethylene or polypropylene container or  polylined drum)that can be tightly closed for disposal.

DISPOSAL:  Dispose of waste or contaminated material in labeled containers to an approved landfill in accordance with local regulations.

7.  HANDLING AND STORAGE

HANDLING: Read label before use. Use personal protective equipment. Wear respiratory protection when using concentrate. Wear rubber or neoprene gloves and protect eyes from splashes. Do not breathe in vapours or mist.  Do not eat, drink or smoke when using product.  Wash hands before meals and after use.   Wash protective clothing daily after work.   Do not take contaminated work clothing out of the workplace. Avoid release to environment.

STORAGE:   Store locked up when not under control of Approved Handler. Keep  in tightly closed original container in a cool dry place  , out of reach of children and away from food, drink and animal foodstuffs. Protect containers from physical damage.

 
8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION

EXPOSURE GUIDELINES:  No Tolerable Exposure Limit (TEL) nor Workplace Exposure Standard (WES) have been set for 2-(Thiocyanomethylthio) benzothiazole or carbendazim by the Occupational Safety and Health Service , NZ Department of Labour.

ENGINEERING CONTROLS:  Use in a well ventilated area or outdoors.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE):

Face/Eye protection:  Wear goggle or face shield where there is risk of splashes or from mist.

Skin protection:   Use rubber or neoprene gloves.

Respiratory protection:  Use in a well-ventilated area. In confined spaces wear a SAA approved respirator.

Other: Overalls recommended to protect clothes and any exposed skin from contamination. Wear impervious safety footwear.
After use, wash protective equipment including the inside of gloves.
Dry before re-use.

10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY

STABILITY (CONDITIONS TO AVOID):   Stable under normal storage and use conditions. Avoid extremes of temperature, e.g. below 0 0C and above 30 0C.
 
INCOMPATIBILITY (MATERIALS TO AVOID) : Avoid contact with oxidizers and acids. Cyanide salts are formed when the material contacts strong alkalis.

HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS:  Decomposes on burning and may produce acrid smoke and toxic fumes.

EYE:  Corrosive to eyes. Corneal injury may develop with possible impairment of vision if eyes are not promptly rinsed.  Eyes may be severely irritated resulting in inflammation. Repeated or prolonged exposure to irritant effects may result in conjunctivitis.

SKIN:  Mildly corrosive to skin.  May accentuate pre-existing skin conditions.
May cause skin sensitization (contact dermatitis). This form of dermatitis is often characterized by skin redness (erythema) and swelling (oedema) which may progress to vesiculation, scaling and thickening of the epidermis. Prolonged contact is unlikely, given the severity of the response, but repeated exposures may produce severe ulceration.

INGESTION:  Harmful if swallowed. May cause discomfort to gastrointestinal tract and result in nausea, abdominal irritation, pain and vomiting.

INHALATION:  May be fatal if inhaled. Risk from vapours increases at higher temperatures.  Seek immediate medical attention.

SYSTEMIC (OTHER TARGET ORGAN) EFFECTS:  Product is classified as having adverse effects on systems or target organs.
