4. FIRST AID MEASURES

Consult the National Poison Centre  ,  telephone   0800  764 766   [ 0800 POISON ]  or a doctor in every case of suspected poisoning. Never give fluids or induce vomiting if the person is unconscious or convulsing regardless of the cause of injury. If breathing difficulties occur, seek medical attention immediately.

EYES:  Hold eyes open and carefully rinse eyes with running water.  Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Seek medical advice if irritation persists.

SKIN:  Remove contaminated clothing and wash affected area with soap and water.  If skin irritation occurs, get medical attention.

INGESTION:  Rinse mouth. Immediately call a Poison Centre or doctor for treatment advice. Do not induce vomiting unless told to do so by a Poison Centre or doctor.

INHALATION:    Move person to fresh air.  Seek medical advice if ill-effects occur. If person is not breathing, begin artificial respiration. Use mouth-to-nose rather than mouth-to-mouth.

FIRE & EXPLOSION HAZARDS:  Avoid breathing fumes. Expansion or decomposition of containers may lead to violent rupture of containers.

FIRE-FIGHTING EQUIPMENT:  Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and personal protection clothing.



6.  ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

SPILLS:  Do not contaminate watercourses or the ground. Absorb small spills with sand or other inert material. Dyke large spills with sand, soil or vermiculite. Recover liquid into suitable labeled container that can be tightly closed for disposal.

DISPOSAL:  Dispose of waste or contaminated material  in labeled containers to an  approved landfill in accordance with local regulations.


7.  HANDLING AND STORAGE

HANDLING: Read label before use. Keep out of reach of children.  Use personal protective equipment. Wear rubber or neoprene gloves and protect eyes from splashes. Do not breathe in spray mist.  Do not eat, drink or smoke when using product.  Wash hands before meals and after use.   Wash protective clothing daily after work.   Avoid release to environment.

STORAGE:   Store in tightly closed  original container in a cool dry place , out of reach of children and away from food, drink and animal foodstuffs. Protect packaging from physical damage.



8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION

EXPOSURE GUIDELINES:  No Tolerable Exposure Limit (TEL) nor Workplace Exposure Standard (WES) has been set for this substance.

ENGINEERING CONTROLS:  Use in a well ventilated area.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE):
Face/Eye protection:  Wear goggles or face shield  where there is risk of  dust or mist contact.

Skin protection:   Use rubber or neoprene gloves.

Respiratory protection:  Use in a well-ventilated area. In confined spaces wear a SAA approved respirator.

Other:  Overalls recommended to protect clothes and any exposed skin from contamination. Wear impervious safety footwear. After use, wash protective equipment including the inside of gloves. Dry before re-use.

10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY

STABILITY (CONDITIONS TO AVOID):   Stable under normal storage and use conditions. Avoid extremes of temperature, e.g. below 0 ºC and above 40 ºC.

INCOMPATIBILITY (MATERIALS TO AVOID) : Avoid contact with oxidizers and strong alkalis.

HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS:  Decomposes on heating and may produce acrid smoke and toxic fumes of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides.

HAZARDOUS POLYMERIZATION:  Not known to occur.



11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS: This section includes possible adverse effects, which might occur if this product is not handled in the recommended manner.

EYE:  May cause slight irritant effects. Not classified as eye irritant.

SKIN:  Prolonged or frequently repeated skin contact may cause skin reactions in some individuals. Not classified as skin irritant.

INGESTION:  Harmful if swallowed. May cause discomfort to gastrointestinal tract and result in nausea, abdominal irritation, pain and vomiting.  When taken as high doses, signs such as anorexia, squinting, excessive saliva, watery eyes, laboured breathing, hypothermia, a lack of co-ordination, depression, paralysis or muscle twitches.

INHALATION:  Product is not classified as having acutely toxic effects by inhalation route.  May cause discomfort to upper respiratory tract.

SYSTEMIC (OTHER TARGET ORGAN) EFFECTS:  Product is not classified as having adverse effects on systems or target organs.

CANCER INFORMATION:  No adverse effects identified.

Dispose of any waste  in accordance with Regional Authority or local council bylaws. Triple rinse empty containers with water and recycle washings to work tank.  Recycle clean containers otherwise dispose of by crushing  and burying in  approved  landfill.
